Course Description
A graduate topics course based on a textbook the instructor was writing, which could be found on his book project page. A detailed syllabus was provided.
Textbook
The course was based on a book being written by the instructor (later published as The Surprising Mathematics of Longest Increasing Subsequences).
Grading
No final exam. The grade was based on two components:
- 3 homework problem sets given out over the quarter
- A final writing assignment, which could take the form of a traditional final paper or a Wikipedia-style article on a subject related to the course material
